How to Choose the Right Filter
- Know the type: 1″, 2″, 4″, 5″, Special Media
- Know the size
- What efficiency? Filters are rated with MERV to give you an indication of efficiency. (This is the only official industry rating standard for filters.). The higher the number the more efficient it is. But higher efficiency can come with a downside that you should be aware of, pressure drop. It’s more difficult to pull air through a higher efficiency filter. This can lead to issues if your filter is undersized for your system. If you are unsure, please call us to get a recommendation. We will need a couple of things to help determine this: a picture of the data tag on your outdoor unit and your current filter size. We would also need to know if it’s in a grill, a filter rack or a filter cabinet.
For 1″ filters most will need to be MERV 8-11. Media filters may be from MERV 11-13.
